What's In Your Soap?

You use soap multiple times a day, but have you ever questioned what’s in it?  If you are interested in reducing your exposure to toxic chemicals, then you will want to know what is in your soap.  Our skin is our body’s largest organ and first line of defense against harmful substances. Our skin is also absorbent, allowing us to take in healthful substances such as vitamin D from sunlight.  On the down side, toxins that come in contact with your skin are also absorbed into the body. Chemicals like dioxane, Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLS), triclosan, parabens, urea, palate, BHT, retinyl are found in typical soaps.  While these chemicals are common, by no means are they safe. These chemicals are carcinogenic and also contain endocrine disruptors (which wreck havoc on hormones and immune system function). Conventional soap also changes the natural pH of your skin, removes healthful bacteria, and strips your skin of its natural moisture--leaving you with dry, itchy, and inflamed skin. Unfortunately, washing with conventional soaps can cause more harm than good.
If you don’t want something in your body, don’t put it on your body!  Edye’s naturals makes choosing a chemical free soap easy using the cold process method. You’ll only find ingredients you can trust in Edye’s Organic Soap, including:  Organic Shea Butter, Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Organic Coconut Oil, Water, Organic Castor Oil, and Organic Essential Oils. Edye’s naturals uses a blend of organic oils to moisturize as it cleans, without the use of harsh chemicals:

  • Organic Shea Butter: Considered a skin superfood, shea butter is moisturizing, reduces inflammation, and soothes the skin.
  • Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil: High in antioxidants, olive oil is well-regarded for its nourishing, moisturizing, cleansing and hydrating properties.
  • Organic Coconut Oil: Coconut Oil is a natural antibacterial and antifungal.  The fatty acids in coconut oil aid in the removal of dirt, dead skin, and other impurities, while simultaneously moisturizing the skin.
  • Organic Castor Oil: Castor Oil is easily absorbed and draws moisture into the skin. This ingredients helps create a good lather in natural soaps.
  • Organic Essential Oils: Along with smelling great, essential oils have natural cleaning properties.
While there are many other companies that make a cleaner version of soap, not many use organic oils.  Organic oils are important because they have not been produced with herbicides, chemical fertilizers, or pesticides; this is not only better for your body, it is better for the environment too! Some natural soap brands use palm oil, which has negative implications for the environment.  In fact, palm oil production is one of the lead causes of Rain Forest destruction (for more information about the negative impact of palm oil production see: RainForest Action Network).
Be mindful of what you choose to put on and in your body--for your health and the health our our environment! Choose Edye’s naturals to be part of your healthy lifestyle.
